The truth about micellar waters
The what, the why and the how about the product. With our most popular myths debunked.
What are micellar waters?
This modern miracle is a cleansing and makeup-removing innovation that reveals soft and supple skin without hard rubbing. Micellar waters contain tiny spheres of cleansing agent called micelles. Micellar water combines the power of a good face wash with cotton-pad convenience.
Where do micellar waters fit in?
Easy cleaning anywhere
When sensitivity to hard water, travel or a busy schedule are stopping you from properly washing your face, micellar waters make a great all-in-one. They cleanse and remove makeup and are gentle enough for all skin types.
‘‘You don’t need to wash it off’’
It’s not THAT easy
Although they’re excellent at helping you swab away dirt and makeup, micellar water’s cleaning agents still need to be rinsed away, along with the residues they’ve removed from your skin.
‘‘It’s a toner you can use after washing your face’’
It may look like toner but...
Micellar water is a water-soluble dirt buster, not a toner. Unlike a good toner, it won’t balance your skin’s pH and the cleansing chemicals in it will dehydrate your face if not removed.
‘‘Micellar water is like an oil cleanser’’
As different as oil and water
Micellar water can’t replace oil cleansers because it doesn’t remove makeup. If you practice double cleansing, you don’t need micellar water, which is a bit like a double cleanse in a bottle. In a routine, micellar water comes after oil cleansing and before a face wash.
How to incorporate micellar waters into your routine
Shake, soak and wipe away
Give the bottle a shake to blend the active ingredients. Now soak a cotton pad in the micellar water. Hold the cotton pad over your closed eye for a few seconds and then gently wipe to remove every trace of your eye makeup.
Soaking another cotton pad, sweep it across your face and eyes until the pad comes away clean. Rinse and continue with your usual routine.
