The truth about aftersun care
The what, the why and the how about the product. With our most popular myths debunked.
What is aftersun lotion?
Let’s start with what it’s not. Aftersun is not a substitute for sunscreen. Packed with moisture, aftersun products help to soothe, repair and hydrate. They're usually light emulsions that blend water and oil with moisturising ingredients such as hyaluronic acid or glycerine.
Why is aftersun lotion important?
Soothe and replenish
Getting too much sun leaves your body and skin dried out and UV rays, chlorine and salty water can weaken our skin’s natural barrier. Aftersun lotions and gels can limit the effects of dehydration, replace moisture and help soothe sunburn.
‘‘Aftersun can repair UV damage’’
Sun damage is permanent
It’s dangerous to get too much sun and assume aftersun will make it all ok. Protect your skin properly and don’t over do it.
‘‘Aftersun is only for summer’’
All-year versatile
Aftersun is more than a summer’s day after-party. The soothing ingredients it contains can be helpful any time skin feels dry, tight or sensitive.
How to incorporate aftersun into your routine
Top-to-toe treatment
Start with a wash and cleanse to get rid of salt, chlorine, sweat and sunscreen. Now from top to toe, gently massage in your after-sun. If you have dry skin choose a rich after-sun that contains oils and butters. For normal skin, sprays and lighter lotions are perfect for soothing sun-kissed skin.
